A Photo Study: In Steps!
I’ve been trying to improve at using Procreate for digital art the past several months. Here’s what my workflow looks like at the moment!
The photo in question— This is a portrait of Evelyn Nesbit, a Gibson girl model and actress.
I do a sketch layer first. I’m an absurdly messy sketcher, but I’m picky with myself. This sketch took me a little over an hour.
Couch time! Since it’s so much darker than the figure, I just want to get it out of the way.
Next, I shade the figure— and her little pitcher-thing.
Finally, I add highlights to the form (tops of hands, shiniest part of pitcher, eyes, etc.) and make the background more distinct.
